The Xu Family — Soft Light, Sweet Moments, and a Gallery Worth Treasuring
Some sessions unfold with a gentleness that stays with you long after the sun goes down, and that’s exactly how it felt photographing the Xu family of four in my favourite grassy field in Sydney. With two little boys — a curious two‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old and his six‑month‑old baby brother — the afternoon settled into a rhythm of cuddles, quiet connection, and those tender in‑between moments that make family photography feel so meaningful.
The boys were absolute delights. Their eldest wandered through the long grass, always circling back for a hug or a hand to hold, while baby brother snuggled into Mum and Dad with that soft sweetness only a six‑month‑old can bring. We played a few gentle games, shared a couple of giggles, and even managed a few “hoist him in the air” moments that lit up the whole field. But the heart of this session was slower, softer — the kind of love you feel more than you pose.
As the sun dipped behind the trees, the whole field glowed with that warm, golden light that this location does so well. The Xu family leaned into each other, wrapped up in arms and smiles, creating the kind of images that feel timeless the moment you take them. These are the photographs that become heirlooms — the ones you look back on and say, “Remember when they were this little?”
One of the most beautiful parts of this session is that the Xu family loved every single image. They chose to purchase their full gallery along with a custom album — a decision that always makes my heart so full. There’s something incredibly special about holding your memories in your hands, turning pages that will be touched by little fingers now and treasured by grown‑up hands years from today. Digital files are wonderful, but prints… prints become part of your family story.
This session was a reminder of why I adore photographing families in this season of life — the tenderness, the tiny details, the way time feels both slow and impossibly fast. The Xu family brought warmth, love, and a quiet kind of magic to the field that evening, and their gallery reflects every bit of it.
