There’s something special about returning to a family you’ve photographed for years — a sense of familiarity, warmth, and quiet pride as you see how much the kids have grown. Driving down to Bowral on that golden November afternoon, I felt that familiar mix of nostalgia and excitement, knowing I was about to step back into a story I’ve been lucky enough to witness unfold.

This was my fourth session with the Mignemi family, and every year these three arrive with bigger personalities, new quirks, and that same unmistakable sibling energy. They’re getting taller, faster, and a little harder to scoop up or swing around, but the heart of who they are hasn’t changed one bit — playful, affectionate, and wonderfully themselves.

Bowral gave us the perfect backdrop: soft light, open space, and just enough breeze to keep everything feeling alive. The kids darted between patches of sunshine, chasing each other, collapsing into giggles, and wrapping their arms around Mum and Dad in those fleeting, unscripted moments that make family sessions feel like time capsules.

What I love most about photographing the Mignemis is how naturally they fall into connection. There’s no forcing, no posing that feels stiff — just a family who genuinely enjoys being together. Every year, the dynamic shifts ever so slightly as the kids grow, but the love at the centre of it all stays steady.

As the sun dipped lower and the kids’ energy softened into cuddles and quiet moments, I couldn’t help but feel grateful to be the one documenting this chapter — another year, another layer of their story preserved.

Here’s to watching these three continue to grow, and to the beautiful, evolving chaos that makes each session with them feel like coming home.
